It’s official. A House Ethics subcommittee given the duty of weighing the charges against Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y) has found the 20-term legislator guilty of 11 separate ethics violations. Rangel faced charges for accepting rent-stabilized apartments in Manhattan, failing to report income and pay taxes on a rental income from home he owns in the Dominican Republic, and soliciting charitable donations from companies with business before the House Ways and Means Committee.
Rangel stepped down as chair of the committee this March after accusations against him began to reach a fever pitch. It’s not yet known what additional penalties, if any, the Ethics Committee may levy against him.
