Though the story dates back to the fall of 2009, the nationis beginningto take notice of the Wake County School Board and its attempts to end the district’s school assignment policy — based on promoting diversity — following a story by the Washington Post last week.
But Tuesday evening, the school board received a new level of attention (and mockery), courtesy of Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. In his “The Word” segment — titled “Disintegration” — Colbert highlighted comments board member John Tedescomade to the Post, in addition to statistics that showed 94.5 percentof school district parents approved of the district’s policy.
