Nevermind that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is on the recordwith his intent not to seek the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in 2012. A group of students are determined to make a political pitch on his behalf.
The student-led Draft Daniels movement is taking to the Iowa airwaves this weekend during the National Football League’s Pro Bowl, and is promising future appearances of the ad in New Hampshire and Indiana.
The ad, which has a female student comparing the fiscal attributes of Daniels to those of President Barack Obama, ends with twist. “Mitch Daniels did not approve this message. Tell him to,” it states.
When told about the ad by The Wall Street Journal, Daniels laughedand doubted its effectiveness.
“I bet it will run on some tiny cable stations in the middle of the night,” he said. “I mean, how much money could these kids possibly have?”
Max Eden, a student at Yale University and former Obama supporter, said he believed Daniels “could be the bridge” between the tea party movement and traditional Republicans.
