Stupak joins DC lobbying firm
Bart Stupak, the Democrat who retired from the Dist. 1 Congressional seat he held since 1993 this year after facing bipartisan attacks for his vote on federal health care reform , has signed on with the DC law and lobbying group Venable LLP. Politico has the announcement: Venable LLP announced that former Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak, has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a partner in the Legislative and Government Affairs Group.

“„Venable LLP announced that former Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak, has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a partner in the Legislative and Government Affairs Group.
As a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Chairman of its subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Mr. Stupak played a major role in setting government policy and legislation in a variety of key sectors, including energy, healthcare, telecommunications and international trade….
At Venable, Mr. Stupak joins a bi-partisan team of senior Washington insiders, including former U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, former Secretary of Transportation James Burnley and former U.S. Attorney General Benjamin Civiletti as well as veteran Capitol Hill legislative staffers and policy advisors from both sides of the aisle.
Stupak, who is blocked from lobbying Congress for one year, told Roll Callthat he is not sure whether he will become a registered lobbyist after that.
“I have no objections to it,” he said. “There may be times I’ll have to go to the Capitol.”
Michigan’s District 1 is now represented by Republican Dan Benishek(R-Crystal Falls), a political newcomer with Tea Party connections.
