Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlentyannounced his candidacy for President of the United States Sunday in a video, a day ahead of his scheduled appearance in Des Moines.
Watch the video:
In an email sent to supporters late Sunday, Pawlenty wrote, “I wanted you to be among the first to know that tomorrow, I will be in Iowa to announce that I’m running for President of the United States of America. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch this video previewing tomorrow’s announcement.
“We need a President who will tell the American people the truth about the severe challenges facing our nation and how we can get America back on track. President Obama won’t do that. I will.”
In the video, Pawlenty also takes direct aim at Obama saying, “we are going to have to give more than fancy speeches.”
“We’ve had three years of that, and we know it’s not working,” he adds.
The Des Moines event featuring Pawlenty is being billed as a town hall meeting and will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the State Historical Building in downtown. Mary Pawlenty, former Minnesota first lady, will provide the introduction.
