Former governor and presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty will not challenge Sen. Amy Klobuchar in 2012, the Associated Press reports. Republican Party of Minnesota chair Tony Sutton had suggested that Pawlenty take on Klobuchar following his exit from the presidential race on Sunday.
“I don’t know what I will be doing next,” Pawlenty said “However, I will not be running against Amy in 2012.”
The GOP has been searching for a star candidate to take on Klobuchar, whose favorability is among the highest of senators up for reelection in 2012.
Unsuccessful candidate for Secretary of State Dan Severson is challenging Klobuchar as is perennial candidate Dick Franson.
