U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will be in Florida tomorrow to tour the Winding Waters Wetland Preserve in West Palm Beach and to announce several Everglades restoration projects. #
According to a press release sent out by the USDA, Vilsack will be joined by a host of Florida government, agriculture and conservation leaders for an announcement of projects and funding for wetland restoration in the Northern Everglades Watershed. #
Everglades research and restoration has been under increased scrutiny in recent months, due to budget cutsat Florida’s water management districts and a controversialbudget proposal by Gov. Rick Scott to cut Everglades funding by 66 percent. #
Vilsack will start the day in West Palm, and will later tour the Indian River BioEnergy Center in Vero Beach, for an announcement of joint USDA and U.S. Department of Energy grants. According to a 2010 press release, those grants go toward funding research and development of technologies and processes to produce “biofuels, bioenergy and high-value biobased products.” #
