The state Senate wrapped up the last of their budget bills yesterday and the House is expected to take up and vote on their remaining bills today, months before the end of the fiscal year for the first time in decades.
The Senate passed the education budget, which cuts $470 per student out of state aid. Overall, state funding for K-12 education is reduced by nearly a billion dollars, according to the Detroit News.
Local revenue sharing was cut by a third and new conditions were added to what was left. The Department of Corrections budget was cut by $71 million.
The House is expected to vote on all 16 budget bills today.
