A Planned Parenthood clinic just north of Dallas was the target of a Molotov cocktail late Tuesday night, police said, an attack that left a glass door broken but didn’t start a fire inside the office.
McKinney Police spokesman Lt. Mark Moyle told the Texas Independent officers are still investigating the “possible arson.”
Moyle said the fire, which was reported just before 10 p.m., was started by a “broken glas bottle that contained some kind of accelerant,” and was extinguished by a fire crew before officers arrived.
“We did have reports from the staff that there were protesters out front” earlier in the day, Moyle said, “although we have no indication at this point that the protesters were involved.”
Planned Parenthood of North Texas spokeswoman Holly Morgan didn’t immediately return a call for comment, but Morgan told the McKinney Courier-Gazettethis afternoon that the attack was the first of its kind here:
“„“We have not had this kind of violence at any of the other locations in the past,” she said. “I believe we’ve had some vandalism in the past but that was a decade or so ago. We have never had any kind of attack to this degree.”
Morgan told WFAAthe attack on the clinic, which does not perform abortions but often draws protesters, was “alarming.”
