Oil leaks provoke shutdown of Keystone pipeline extension
As the State Department considers a proposal to extend the Keystone pipeline all the way to the Gulf Coast of Texas, the first phase of the project has been shut down by the Department of Transportation after the 12th leak in the pipeline in its first year of operation.

As the State Department considers a proposal to extend the Keystone pipeline all the way to the Gulf Coast of Texas, the first phase of the project has been shut down by the Department of Transportation after the 12th leak in the pipeline in its first year of operation.
The Corrective Action Order sets 14 conditions that must be met by TransCanada, the owner of the pipeline, before the oil can begin to flow again. It’s possible that it could take weeks for the company to meet those conditions, during which time the pipeline would remain shut down.
