Developer says it will take immediate steps to address S. Florida unpaid wages
The Carlisle Development Group writes to The Florida Independent today that the company is “taking immediate and aggressive steps to address” allegations by construction workers that they have not received wages for work done on the Northwest Gardens affordable housing project managed by Carlisle. # Early this week, Fort Lauderdale construction workers told the Independent that between 40 and 50 workers have not received their wages for anywhere from three weeks to two months, and are owed between $1,600 and $3,500. The Northwest Gardens project consists of 150 new townhomes and apartments designed for working families. # Ann Briggle — junior account executive at The Jeffrey Group , a marketing and corporate communications firms focused on “Latin consumers, customers, influencers and stakeholders throughout the Americas” — submitted the following statement on behalf of Carlisle: # It has recently come to our attention that a sub-sub-contractor at Northwest Gardens has not fully lived up to the standards we, Carlisle Development and the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale, demand
“„It has recently come to our attention that a sub-sub-contractor at Northwest Gardens has not fully lived up to the standards we, Carlisle Development and the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale, demand. It has been alleged that one of Florida Shell Construction, Inc.’s subcontractors, Pozo Construction, has not paid its workers. This is not typical of, nor acceptable to, Carlisle or the Housing Authority. We have proper documentation showing payments to our contractor and to their subcontractor. However, apparently these wages were not properly disbursed to the subcontractor’s construction employees. **We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to address this issue. **Our contractor, BJ&K Construction, along with Florida Shell Construction, Inc. are reaching out directly to Pozo Construction to determine which individuals were working on the jobsite and the amount they are owed. Both Carlisle and the Housing Authority pride themselves on the highest quality, ethical standards and professionalism, never having dealt with a situation of this nature in the past.
