Former Denver Post editor Gil Spencer died in New York this morning at the age of 85.

F. Gilman Spencer, a charismatic, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist who capped a colorful career as editor of The Denver Post, died this morning in New York City.
Spencer, who was 85, died about 10:30 a.m. local time at New York University Hospital. He had been undergoing treatment for a persistent infection.
Spencer had a passion for journalism that propelled him through more than four decades at papers in Philadelphia as well as New Jersey, New York and finally Colorado.
Spencer’s crusading editorials for The Trentonian in New Jersey won him a Pulitzer in 1974.
