While Wall Street’s still occupied by protestors railing against financial policies that help only the rich — and spin-off protests are getting set for cities around Texasnext week — Democrats in Corpus Christi are mounting a protest of their own, targeted at one rich guy in particular: Republican Congressman Blake Farenthold.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reportsthat the Nueces County Democratic Party will be setting up “within shouting distance” of Farenthold’s office today, arguing for policies “to improve the economy by raising tax rates for millionaires and billionaires so their rates are in line with what middle class workers pay,” according to one official with the party.
Politico has featured Farenthold as a member of the “millionaires club” in Congress today, though as the Texas Independent reportedin June, his finances are a little murkier than that.
To help fund his reelection effort without dipping into his own pockets too much, Farenthold joined fellow Texas Republican Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco in a joint operation called the Canseco-Farenthold Victory Committee, Politico reportedThursday, a Washington-based fundraising body that can split money between the two candidates any way it sees fit.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has zeroed inon the two as particular targets next year.
