Benham was convicted of “stalking” an abortion provider in North Carolina, and is no longer allowed to even repeat the doctor’s name he was stalking due a lawsuit filed by the physician he targeted with posters. The posters reportedly read: “Wanted … By Christ, to Stop Killing Babies,” The American Independent reports. He was recently sentenced to 18 months of probation. #
An administrator at the EPOC Abortion Clinicin Orlando tells The Florida Independent the clinic is seeing an unusual amount of protesters outside their clinic. Clinic staffers are being told the hubbub should be over after this week, and that protests will “return to normal” levels once Benham leaves. #
The clinic and its employees are also receiving an increase in protections as a result. An EPOC employee has said that law enforcement ranging from FBI to local police are protecting patients and workers at the clinics. Protesters are also not allowed onto the clinic’s property. #
“„Organizers from the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), Ms.’s publisher, are working with the Orlando clinics, pro-choice supporters and local, state and federal law enforcement to protect the clinics during the siege. “Flip Benham and his associates are on notice –they can no longer stalk and terrorize women’s health care providers with impunity. We’ll continue to do everything we can to prevent their unlawful conduct, to protect women’s health care providers and to maintain access to safe, legal abortion in Orlando.” #
Feminist Majority has also warned the clinic to watch out for Keith Tucci, the former director of Operation Rescue. The clinic was told he was holding meetings in Florida to organize enough people to protest every abortion clinic in Orlando this week. #
An employee at EPOC says there are also also abortion rights activists and undercover police in front of the clinic, working to protect those entering. #
