Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., will be making two Sunday show appearances this week. #
He is set to appear on Telemundo’s Enfoquewith host Jose Diaz-Balart. According to The Miami Herald, “his office says it’s Rubio’s first extended national Spanish-language TV interview since taking office -– although he’s done some shorter ones for national news packages.” The show will air at 11:30 a.m. #
His appearance comes in the wake of an article by The Washington Postreporting that Rubio’s hard line on immigration has made him unpopular with Latino voters. This is disappointing to many Republicans leaders, who hoped he would help garner Hispanic votes for the party. #
Rubio will also appear on a local news channel in South Florida, WPLG 10′s This Week in South Floridawith Michael Putney. #
It was also announced this week that Rubio, a Republican celebrity among social conservatives, will also be attending a conservative political conference in Florida in September. #
On Monday, the American Conservative Union (ACU) revealed that U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio would be speaking to the Conservative Political Action Conference Florida (CPAC FL) meeting in Orlando on Friday, Sept. 23. #
“A rising star in the U.S. Senate, Marco Rubio’s tremendous victory in 2010 was a powerful symbol of the surging conservative movement in America.” said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas, a former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. “Senator Rubio has been a great friend of the American Conservative Union, and we look forward to joining him in his home state for CPAC FL this September.” #
Rubio did not attend this year’s national CPAC, held in Washington, D.C. However, he did attend the year before, when he was still lagging behind Charlie Crist in the polls during his Senate race. His speech at the conference was a rousing success. #
Rubio has strong relationships with social conservative groups here in Florida. Rubio gave a speech at the awards banquetat which the Florida Family Policy Council announced it was starting a political action committee. He also supported the groupin a large-scale fundraising campaign dubbed “Ignite an Enduring Cultural Transformation.” #
