The Emily’s List-endorsed candidate hoping to unseat Rep. Allen West, R-Fort Lauderdale, has created a website called WestHatesWomen.com. #
Lois Frankel created the website in the wake of West calling Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Pembroke Pines, “vile … despicable … not a Lady.“ When asked if she really believes West hates women, Frankel told The Palm Beach Post: ”Let’s put it this way: I think his attitude towards women is very disrespectful. I do think his votes mainly and his attitudes towards women are hurtful and disparaging.” #
Besides his aggressive words aimed at Wasserman Schultz, West has had a history of directing verbal barbs at women. West has said that liberal women “neutering American men”were to blame for the country’s debt in speech he gave last April to a conservative Christian women’s group. He said: #
We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these other women know, on the other side — these Planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow. #
These are just two of many incidents West has been involved in since taking office. Here is a rundown of some other gems: #
  • In June, West fired an internfor retweeting a message supportive of gays on West’s Twitter account.
  • Earlier that same month, West had called gay marriage an “oxymoron.”
  • He singled outPlanned Parenthood and “these Code Pink women” for the country’s growing debt. In the same speech he asked women to breed strong men to send to Capitol Hill — comparing them to Spartans. He said, “It’s going to take each and every one of you [women] supporting men” to fix the country’s debt problems.
  • Most recently, West called Obama supporters “a threat to the gene pool.”
West is facing a tough reelection next year. The National Republican Congressional Committee has announced it will be providing West with special financial helpbecause he is among a handful of candidates believed to be particularly vulnerable 2012. #
