After analysis by the House Fiscal Agency and the House Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Michigan State University’s tuition increase was found to be within the parameters set forth by the state, sparing the university from more funding cuts.
On Thursday, the state’s Budget Director, John Nixon announced the university was in compliance with the 7.1 percent tuition increase-ceiling set forth Gov. Snyder.
The ruling will prevent a $18.3 million loss in state funding, reportsMlive.com.
Some legislators, though, believed MSU had actually exceeded the limit, well past 9 percent in tuition hikes. …
MSU officials disputed those claims, insisting the university kept tuition rate increases within the state’s parameters.
