Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope says he has sent letters to the Lansing Police, City Attorney and Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III seeking a thorough investigation of a pot for votes scandal that erupted in the city on Wednesday.

Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope says he has sent letters to the Lansing Police, City Attorney and Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III seeking a thorough investigation of a pot for votes scandal that erupted in the city on Wednesday.

“„Lansing Police Lt. Noel Garcia said information is still coming in on the matter. “We are gathering all of the information that has come forth to us and we have already consulted with the prosecuting attorney’s office and we will continue to do that,” he said.
The article also notes that the offer of a half a gram of pot or an edible marijuana product has been removed from the Your Healthy Choice Clinic website. The clinic had been offeringthe products in exchange for patients registering to vote. Where the website might have run afoul of the law is the latter half of the post where it encourages votes for and against specific candidates in the Lansing City Council race on Nov. 8.
But Swope tells the newspaper, “It was clearly too close to the line if not over the line.”
Swope openly presses both a misdemeanor crime, inducement, as well as a felony crime, bribery, in relation to the situation.
Attorney General Bill Schuette, who ran the campaign against the medical marijuana initiative, has also stepped into the case and is looking to see if a crime was committed.
