CDC: Women with disabilities less likely to receive breast cancer exams

According to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, women with disabilities in Florida, and all over the country, are less likely to be screened for breast cancer than women without disabilities. # The CDC reports (.pdf) more than 7 percentage points of difference between the rates of mammography use among women in Florida with disabilities and those without disabilities.

According to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, women with disabilities in Florida, and all over the country, are less likely to be screened for breast cancer than women without disabilities. #
The CDC reports(.pdf) more than 7 percentage points of difference between the rates of mammography use among women in Florida with disabilities and those without disabilities. #
The report analyzes the “prevalence of Mammography use in the past two years among women age 40 years or older with and without Disabilities.” It finds that “in most states, there is a difference in mammography rates by disability status, suggesting a disparity in access to preventive services.” #
In Florida, mammography use among women with disabilities is 72.6 — whereas among women without disabilities the rate is 79.7. #
The state with the largest discrepancy was Missouri, with a 13.6 percentage of difference. The states with the smallest difference were Vermont and Delaware. They have a 1.5 percent difference. #
In total, 78.3 percent of women in Florida are screened for breast cancer. #
