With a raft of controversial social and budgetary bills moving through the Republican-controlled state House, Rep. Dave Agema (R-Grandville) is already looking for a possible new job.
Saturday morning the conservative lawmakerposted the following to his Facebook wall:
I would ask for your prayers concerning running for congress. It would be against congressman Bill Huizinga of the 2′nd district. It seems they don’t like his votes on the recent budget nor his vote for the Mi. Busines tax that we just got rid of. It’s not popular to run against an incumbant within the party. Thoughts?

Cyndi Kuhlman: Continue to pray about it, and discuss it openly and honesstly with your family. I’m all for having you replace Huizinga, as he has fallen short of our conservative expectations many times. The Debt was just the last. If you run, and of course win, I ask of you two things: 1. Always stay true to the Constitution and conservative values. 2. Find a suitable replacement for your current spot. We must again stay strong for the constitution and conservativism.

Agema has introduced a host of controversial pieces of legislation this session: a plan to end the Health Michigan Initiative Fund, which in part underwrites the state’s entire HIV grant funding, and direct that money to airport upkeep; legislation to outlaw “foreign” laws, specifically Sharia, from operating in the state; and legislation to punish state universitiesthat offer partner benefits to same sex couples. He is also trying to move legislation to address illegal immigration.
