The smart new site American News Project (Full Disclosure: TWI will be collaborating with them on pieces) has another video up about environmental regulations. This one looks at pollution in our waterways.
The report argues that the EPA has been lax in its enforcement of the Clean Water Act. Thirty-nine percent of U.S. rivers are too polluted for safe fishing and swimming, ANP says. But one startling finding is that water contamination is causing many of the fish in those rivers to change their sex. Male fish, especially, are changing to females.

“„Polluters pour about 240 million pounds of toxins into U.S. waterways each year. But what’s really got [riverkeeper Ed Merrifield] worried these days is the chemical that mimics the sex hormone estrogen. They appear to be causing male fish to produce immature eggs in their testes. … Over the past decade, intersex fish have been found in waterways throughout the U.S. Scientists suspect a combination of chemicals from farms and factories and pharmaceuticals flushed down our toilets.
