Here’s Hillary Rodham Clinton. Unlike McCain and Obama, she’s at the hearing. She asks: Do we have enough troops to achieve success, "however success is defined," in Afghanistan?
Petraeus "Gen. McNeill has been on the record, as has Adm. Fallon, for the need for addition forces in Afghanistan." There was recently a decision to send approximately 2000 more troops, mostly Marines, to the other war. But Petraeus said, "I am not sure that will be all that will be required, and one of the early efforts I will have to undertake will be to the Afghan-Pakistan region. … That is something I will need to look very hard at."
Clinton: "I would certainly urge much greater attention" to Afghanistan. What will you do to elevate Afghanistan up from "the forgotten frontlines in the war against terrorism"? How important is capturing Osama bin Laden? (The first mention of bin Laden in the hearing — wow. Good for HRC.)
"It should be a very high priority. … More can and should be done."
