Sen. Barack Obama is focused on large swing-state rallies in the campaign’s homestretch, but he just carved out precious time to address a more dispersed gathering online.
He uploaded a mini-stump speech on energy — about three minutes long — for voters across the country to watch on YouTube.
Campaign organizers have arranged “New Energy House Parties” to mobilize supporters and tout Obama’s energy proposals to interested voters. The campaign says there are several hundred scheduled.
The idea is to make attendees feel directly connected to Obama, even if they live in states that won’t be visited by Obama any more before Election Day, because he took the time to address them with new remarks tailored to an issue they care about.
PRODUCTION NOTES: Just the facts — this spare video feels more like a video conference than a political ad. There are a few new thoughts from the candidate about how investments and research can put America on a path to energy independence. The camera makes only two cuts, zooming in once for a tight shot of Obama’s face — closer than a standard television frame — and back out again for his conclusion.
It’s Skype meets Obama.
