Democrats on the House oversight committee keep asking Stephen Johnson if he met with the President about the EPA’s new ozone standard and in denying California a tailpipe emissions waiver. Johnson said he did meet about the California waiver. Then he said he didn’t. When Henry Waxman asked him to clarify, Johnson said he had "routine conversations" with the White House all the time.
Waxman got really upset. He grew even more upset when Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Ca.) said he was out of order. Waxman threatened to physically remove Issa from the hearing. Then he asked Johnson if by not saying what these "routine conversations" were about he was asserting executive privilege.
"Not at this time," Johnson said.
