Obama Talks About Losing at Springsteen Bash

New York, N.Y. — “Don’t underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory,” Sen. Barack Obama cautioned supporters at a Bruce Springsteen fund-raising bash last night, “don’t underestimate our ability to screw it up!”
According to a reporter on the scene, Obama’s prudence did not dampen any spirits at the Hammerstein Ballroom, where 1,959 flush Obama backers plunked down thousands to hear Springsteen, Billy Joel and remarks by the nominee himself. The big-time bash was organized by big-shots Harvey Weinstein, Anna Wintour and John Sykes, among others.
As a private fund-raiser, the event was largely closed to the press, though a pool report was provided for the period when Obama was in the room. He gave a shortened stump speech and briefly danced on stage during a cover of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” — the Stevie Wonder song that the campaign plays at rallies. The song “drew Michelle Obama out onto the stage to join her husband in a little dance, a little hip bumping and a lot of clapping to the beat,” according to the pool report.

Following the theme of this campaign season, however, closing most of the concert to “the press” did not prevent reporting from inside the hall. Homemade videos of songs from the show are already surfacing on YouTube. “BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & BILLY JOEL born to run NYC OBAMA CONCERT” was uploaded the same night of the show.
Obama also took time to praise the stars of the show as some of the “finest musicians in the world.” He touched on the way music can move people more than speeches. “All I have is words. In some ways words are always inadequate.”
Apparently the crowd found Obama’s speech perfectly adequate.
