With the super-delegate momentumdecidedly with Barack Obama, Maine Rep. Tom Allen (D) on Monday announced his endorsementfor the Illinois senator — a move that could end up helping Allen at least as much as it does Obama. That’s because Allen is in the middle of a tough Senate contest with two-term incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R) — a race considered to be one of the more hotly contested in the country.
Though both Maine senators are Republicans, the state went 54 percent for Democrat John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race. Allen, no doubt, hopes to ride a similar result to an upper-chamber promotion.
