The Washington Post reported yesterday on the controversial development projectthat has divided Benton Harbor, Michigan’s poorest city. The story is attracting national attention because the project’s wealthy backers are seeking to take over 22 acres of a waterfront park belonging to the mostly black city to create a luxury housing development and private golf course.
But the Post’s story missed the scoop reported Friday by TWI’s sister site, Michigan Messenger: that two prominent backers of the project, Republican Congressman Fred Upton and Whirlpool CEO Jeff Fettigwould gain easy access to the private golf course because they live right down the street. The Messenger has been covering the story since last October.
