Happy anniversary! What anniversary, you ask? Why, it was five years ago today that the Iraq war ended! You remember — there was a banner, and an aircraft carrier, and a presidential declarationthat “in the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.” These last five years of peace, prosperity, Iraqi democracy, an end to a root-cause of terrorism, and all the rest? Sweet.
Oh, that was all a tissue of lies? I forgot. Luckily, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino knows who the real victim is: Bush. Quoth NPR:
“President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished’ for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission,” White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. “And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year.”
I know! The world is just to President Bush. After all, he sleeps in a downy bed on high-thread-count sheets — unlike 4056Americans who did what he told them to do — and sometimes his sleep is disturbed.
