Doan Redux

My lookat Lurita Doan getting canned by the White House today suggests it may have had something to do with her unending personnel battle with GSA Inspector General Brian Miller. A statementDoan gave to Government Executive today might play into that idea. "I would rather get fired for something I believe in, and a cause I was willing to fight for, rather than to believe in nothing worth being fired for," Doan wrote.
What Doan is fighting for seems likely to be her unrelenting, and unproven, charges that Miller is creating a hostile work environment. Doan is, deservedly, making the newstoday as the Bush appointee who violated the Hatch Act and then hung around for 11 months. That Doan would violate the Hatch Act by pressuring employees to support GOP candidates makes the most sense when considered in the context of her overall, alleged, inappropriate treatment of GSA staff. She’s charged with intimidating employees who blew the whistle on her Hatch Act violation just as she allegedly intimidated GSA auditors. It doesn’t look good to be considered too abrasive of a manager for George Bush, but for Doan that may have been a cause worth getting fired for.
