Today the Obama campaign released a new ad slamming Sen. John McCain’s economic policies. While McCain talks about putting "country first," the ad assails him for essentially putting Iraq’s economy first. McCain supports "giving Iraq a $79 billion oil surplus," intones a narrator, "and hurting our economy."
In contrast to the McCain campaign’s recent web videos and small ad buys, designed primarily to drive press coverage, the Obama campaign is running this one in 16 battleground states, ranging from Ohio and Florida to long shots like Alaska. The first run for McCain’s controversial "Troops" ad ran in three states.
PRODUCTION NOTES: Ditching the flash and humor of recent ads by both campaigns, "Book" flips through five chapters of McCain’s economic plan, from endorsing Bush’s tax policies to spending 10 billion a month in Iraq. Pale pink textbook pages are filled with grainy black-and-white images depicting the consequences of McCain economics. Then, viewers see a burst of color once McCain’s book is slammed shut, with several videos of Sen. Barack Obama as a baritone-voiced narrator ticks off the likely Democratic nominee’s pledges to end the war, battle oil companies and put the middle class first. The bromides are vague, but the screen prominently displays a link to a websitewhere voters can "read the whole plan."
