Moments ago, while giving his stump speech at a campaign rally in Defiance, Ohio, Sen. John McCain apparently strayed from his prepared remarks, with hilarious results. Here’s what he said:
“„You know, we’ve learned more about Sen. Obama’s real goals for our country over the last two weeks than we learned over the last two years, and that’s only because Joe the Plumber asked him the right question right here in Ohio. [Cheering]
“„That’s when Sen. Obama revealed he wants to, quote, “spread the wealth around” — spread your income around.
“„Joe’s with us today. Joe where are you? Where is Joe? Is Joe here with us today? Joe, I thought you were here today. [Awkward pause]

Actually, I’m only assuming McCain strayed from his prepared remarks. If his staff included a shout-out to Joe in his speech, without checking to make sure that he was, in fact, in the crowd, the campaign may be cracking up even more than previously thought. Is anyone over there even paying attention anymore?
