With his bumpy road to the Republican nomination, McCain’s numbers lag far behind the tallies set by Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Of course, he’s got plenty of time to bring in the campaign cash — and he plans to use part of this week’s "Service to America" tour to do so.
But still, one tidbit from the Times jumped off the page:
Well over half of the top fund-raisers for Mr. Bush, who raised a record $274 million for him in the 2004 primary season, stayed on the sidelines through this year’s Republican nominating contests.
How well McCain does in winning them over will be a key test of his candidacy. But it’s already a reminder of candidate Bush’s fund-raising prowess.
