With eight days remaining in Congress’ two-week spring recess, Sen. Arlen J. Specter (R-Penn.) is callingon his colleagues to get back to work. In an interviewyesterday on CNN’s Late Edition, Specter said that, considering the nation’s current economic turmoil, it “wouldn’t do us any harm to cut the recess short and come back to Washington and work on some of these problems.” Such a gesture, the senator added, “could have a salutary effect.”
I don’t want to interrupt a lot of recess plans, but I don’t think it would do any harm to go back to work on these issues, for Congress to do that.
Unfortunately for Specter, this is 2008, and most of his Capitol Hill counterparts are busy trolling for dollars on the campaign trail. After all, how can they save the economy they’ve let flounder if they don’t remain in office?
