Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign is upping the pressure on Sen. Barack Obama over the disputed primary votes in Michigan and Florida.
"We are in real danger of jeopardizing our [general election] prospects in these states," Clinton spokesman Phil Singer told reporters on a conference call Wednesday. While voters across the country want to see a Democrat in the White House, Singer said, "If we are snubbing the people of Michigan and Florida, we are going to endanger our ability to do so."
The tough comments followed a last-minute visit by Clinton to Michigan early Wednesday, where she also pressed the case for a re-vote. Getting delegates from Florida and Michigan are key to Clinton’s hopes of capturing the presidential nomination.
But lengthy negotiations about how to proceed in Michigan appeared deadlocked, and Obama’s campaign issued a lengthy memo Wednesday detailing its reservations about the latest re-vote proposal."There is a way to get it done and we could be getting it done," Singer said, "but because [the Obama campaign] has failed to do so, we are endangering our chances."
