The Obama-Biden transition team released a statement today reaffirming President-elect Barack Obama’s previous statements that neither he nor any one in the transition had any inappropriate contact with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s staff regarding Obama’s vacated Senate seat. Blagojevich was arrested by federal authorities last week for allegedly scheming to “sell” the seat.
From the statement:
At the direction of the President-elect, a review of Transition staff contacts with Governor Blagojevich and his office has been conducted and completed and is ready for release. That review affirmed the public statements of the President-elect that he had no contact with the governor or his staff, and that the President-elect’s staff was not involved in inappropriate discussions with the governor or his staff over the selection of his successor as US Senator.
Though Obama promised to release the details of any contacts with the governor’s staff, the transition said the U.S. Attorney’s office in Chicago requested the information not be released until Dec. 22, so as not to impede the investigation.
It looks like the “What did Obama know” speculation will remain active for at least another week.
