After his press conference on educationat a Chicago elementary school, Barack Obama headed upstairs to chat with a small group of first- to fourth-graders, according to the pool report.
Somehow, the kids got out of him what reporters couldn’t: when asked by a child when he would bring troops home from Iraq, he said he would do so in a year and a half.
He asked the kids what they were studying, and when he was told that they were learning about decimals, he responded, “Decimals! Wow, Joe doesn’t even know his decimals!”
He then sought to teach the children a lesson in responsibility, focusing on the First Dog-to-be. “I want to make sure my daughters take care of this dog,” he said. “And if they do their business, and you’ve got some poop, you don’t just leave it there.”
In all, reports the pooler, he answered far more questions from these kids than he did from reporters at the press conference, where fecal discussion was largely absent.
