Latinos have been strong supporters of Hillary Clinton and her campaign is counting on their support again in the crucial Texas primary March 4.
On a conference call with reporters Tuesday afternoon, Mark Penn, Clinton’s top strategist, cited the "substantial Latino turnout" the campaign is expecting. "We think we have excellent prospects in Texas," Penn said. But check out the latest numbers from this Gallup/USA Today poll, which show Clinton’s nationwide numbers among Latinos falling. As National Journal describes it:
Latino voters favored Obama, 50 percent to 46 percent, from Feb. 13-17, a stark turnaround since the beginning of the month, when Latinos favored Clinton by 31 points.
Like I wrote yesterday, there is still plenty of time for this to bounce around some morebefore the votes are really counted.
