I also wanted to respond to skulzfontaine’smention of alcoholism on the Navajo Nation:
These projects NEVER aid or further the hopes of the Navajo people. Alcoholism is Gallup, New Mexico and Gallup is the heart and soul of the Navajo Nation. Joe Shirley should pay a little attention and some of the money he’s got the clenched fist around and help the suffering of his people.
Thought I’d point to this AP story on how the Shirley administration will use casinos to turn a profit — by allowing alcohol sales on a reservation where it’s illegal to drink or sell alcohol. Navajo Nation council delegate Edmund Yazzie asks, "Is there anything positive that can come out of alcohol sales?" He and other delegates hope some of the profit from sales will go to rehab programs.
