Is it a sign of desperation, or just clever forward planning?
According to The Politico’s Roger Simon, the Clinton campaign plans to go after pledged delegates that Barack Obama has already won, if Hillary Clinton needs them to get the Democratic nomination.
How could that be?
Pledged delegates are not really pledged at all, not even on the first ballot. This has been an open secret in the party for years, but it has never really mattered because there has almost always been a clear victor by the time the convention convened.
As Simon notes, at that point delegates would be promised "the sun, moon and stars" to make a switch. And, if it came down to that, the Obama campaign could be expected to fight back in kind. Wow. Are we really ready for all this?
