There’s "Who won my state?" and "Who will I make angry if I go one way or the other," Hart said. Both of those are pretty clear cut, and, it would seem, transparent.
But there’s another element that we haven’t paid enough attention to. "I think the issue of gain or loss at the top of the ticket is a very dominant factor," Hart said.
Hart confirms with what I’ve heard elsewhere, that there are plenty of politicians doing their own polling about how Clinton or Obama at the top of the ticket would affect their chances further down.
Hart has endorsed Obama — and Obama beat Clinton by more than a 2-1 margin in his home state of Colorado. So it’s not a real surprise that Hart thinks Obama would give Democrat Mark Udall a better chance of getting elected to the Senate than Clinton would. Or, as Hart said, "If Mark does a poll, it would show at the very least that Obama is less of a drag than she would be."
But I wonder where else this ticket-effect might be coming into consideration.
