Jeff is totally right to focus on superdelegates. But some Democrats are also rethinking how the party handled Florida and Michigan.
The two states moved their primaries forward to make themselves big players in the selection process. But the DNC had its own schedule in mind. The national party stripped them of their delegates, and the candidates didn’t do any campaigning in them.
Adding these delegates back to the mix might help settle the nomination, or at least that’s what the Clinton campaign seems to think. Did I mention that she won those votes?
"At this point, Florida and Michigan have voted and we think those votes and those preferences matter," Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s communication director, told reporters Friday.
When the time comes for the party convention in Denver in August, the Clinton camp is going to ask its delegates from other states to seat the delegations from the outlaw states.
"I don’t believe we’re going to have a national convention without the delegates of Florida and Michigan having their say," Wolfson said, well aware that the two are also key to Democrats winning in November.
Funny, the Obama campaign isn’t wild about the idea.
