So the Pentagon alerts me to an upcoming conference call with Colonel Wayne Grigsby, a brigade commander operating south and east of Baghdad. "Most recently," the e-mail DOD sent reads, "the brigade conducted Zelig Sunrise, a combined coalition forces and concerned local citizens operation, focused on an area near Salman Pac."
Hold up. Zelig Sunrise? As in… the 1983 Woody Allen faux-documentary? I know General Petraeus believes in the economy of force in counterinsurgency, but Woody Allen doesn’t exactly inspire fear in the hearts of men. (And "sunrise"?) Maybe Grigsby told his battalion commanders, "Gentlemen, at 0400 tomorrow, the insurgents are getting touched like Soon-Yi Farrow Previn!"
