The American Family Association is giving us a rare lookinto one of the Pastors’ Policy Briefings it has been running lately just ahead of primaries in key states. This time, after recent sessions in Iowa and South Carolina, the venue was Orlando, Florida, and, for the 5,000 or so pastors in attendance, a highlight of the two-day meeting was an appearance by Mike Huckabee. (Once again, no other Republican candidates made the guest list.)
The event is officially non-partisan, and Huckabee quickly declared he was not there in his capacity as a candidate. But he was unabashed about the need for religious leaders to take part in public life, saying it would be "irresponsible if we are not involved in those institutions that shape our culture."
It’s a good long look at the full Huckabee, sans guitar, but with the preacher’s passion that some voters seem to love. He gets lots of laughs and cheers, especially when he tries, once again, to explain why he thinks the Constitution needs to be changed. It’s really worth a look.
