The big newsfor national Democrats in the new Marist University poll of New York voters is the Senate trial heat.

Whether King runs for Senate is a question of how bored he is with being a member of the minority party in the House, but it’s clear that his chances as a serious candidate for this seat crumbled when Caroline Kennedy did not get appointed.
The big local news, I guess, is that Gov. David Paterson (D) is behind New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I) and tied with former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) in the polls, but I don’t make much of that. Bloomberg is running for re-election, and Giuliani is a lazy campaigner who’s probably talking up a governor run to revive his image, not to actually go for it. This is a guy who lost four primaries (well, two primaries and two caucuses) to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).
