Bobby Jindal, the Republican governor of Louisiana, is slated to deliver the GOP response to President Obama’s first address to Congress. If I remember it right, this will be the first time Jindal will speak before a national TV audience, not counting press conferences during Louisiana natural disasters. The landfall of Hurricane Gustav prompted him to stay home instead of giving a speech at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.
Jindal has a history with presidential addresses to Congress. In 2005, as a newly-minted congressman, he inspired his Republican colleagues to dye their fingers with purple inkand hoist them high during former President George W. Bush’s State of the Union speech, which came after the Iraqi elections.
