It’s been a low-level foreign policy “gaffe” swirling around the conservative blogosphere for the past couple of days. I’ll let Anthony G. Martin tell it:
We get the news today that Obama has snubbed yet another major U.S. ally–France.
It seems that Obama sent an official letter to former French President (and note, not the current President) Jacques Chirac stating that “I am looking forward to working with you in our common goals.”
Jimmy Orr did some actual reporting and found outthat there was no gaffe at all. “Obama was merely replying to a Chirac letter who was writing him as the head of his foundation,” reports Orr, “the Jacques Chirac Foundation for sustainable development and cultural dialogue.” But a quick Google blogsearch finds several hundred blogs that bit on the bogus story without checking the facts.
