Ohio Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who suffered an aneurysm Tuesday night while driving near Cleveland, has died this evening, according to the Associated Press:
Clinic spokeswoman Eileen Sheil says Tubbs Jones died at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function.
The sad episode had caused confusion around Washington earlier in the day when a number of news outlets, citing an anonymous source, reported the death prematurely.
The 59-year-old former judge was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress. She was slated to be a superdelegate at next week’s Democratic convention in Denver.
