Brad Jackson reports that both National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Pennsylvania Senate race upstart Pat Toomey appeared at Grover Norquist’s Wednesday meeting this morning. The news is in how not awkward the meeting was.
At the meeting this morning, Cornyn spoke first and took no questions. Shortly there after, Toomey was introduced to big applause. He did not go out of his way to criticize the NRSC Chairman saying that Cornyn was elected by Senate Republicans and that Pennsylvania Republicans will now have a chance to elect their own candidate.
It’s really something that Cornyn won’t commit to supporting Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) in the 2010 primary. Sure, the NRSC has a lot of ground to cover and only so much money, but it becomes much, much harder to hold the seat if Specter loses.
