The key bit of this storyon a number of conservative House Republicans howling — sorry, proceeding to the floor of the world’s second-greatest deliberative body and speaking in measured tones — for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano over the department’s right-wing extremism reportwould seem to be this:
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) declined to offer a comment on calls for Napolitano’s resignation.
Look, if Boehner doesn’t even want to comment, then it’s not happening. This should be called out for what it is: the far-right wing of the House GOP making the rest of the party look bad by doubling down on a faux controversy that the leadership only wanted to use for a news cycle of “defending the troops.”
To wit, here’s Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) — who has called for opponents of the president to get “armed and dangerous”and publicly suggested that Obama wants to force young people into re-education camps— denying that right-wing extremism exists.
