I couldn’t help but notice that my email inbox is eerily empty today. Is the McCain campaign press office taking the day off? Is everything all right? Can somebody run over to Arlington to check on them? I’m getting a little worried. Normally, the press office floods reporters with torrents of emails promoting the Arizona senator’s message, informing us of coming events or countering whatever the Obama campaign happens to be doing at any given time.
The last message I received from the campaign was just after 8 a.m. (Arizona time) — and that was just McCain’s prepared remarks for his speech at the American G.I. Forum in Denver — nothing juicy. The office has sent out just two messages so far today, compared with 10 yesterday — but the number increases rapidly if you count all the emails sent out by the Republican National Committee attacking Sen. Barack Obama. Today, there have been no talking points, no conference calls…just one lonely "In Case You Missed It" at 5:40 a.m., featuring a Wall Street Journal editorial about Obama in Berlin.
Maybe they decided that trying to compete with Obama in Europe is futile — then opted to call it a week, regroup over the weekend and come out swinging on Monday.
Somehow, I doubt that’s the case. But it is quiet…a little too quiet!
